Thanks to the Montreal Protocol, summer ice will remain in the Arctic for another 15 years

The Montreal Protocol was signed back in 1987 to limit the production and use of CFCs and other compounds harmful to the Earth’s ozone protection. This encouraged the introduction of safer alternatives.

Nevertheless, scientists warn of serious consequences that could arise from climate change and melting ice in the Arctic, and call for further efforts to preserve the ozone layer and protect the cryosphere.
