“The Sopranos” showrunner David Chase has given a disappointing prognosis for the television industry.
In a new interview with The Times, Chase noted that the quality of today’s TV series is plummeting:
“Soon there will be commercials on all the streaming services. […] We’re multitasking now. We seem to have lost our way, and audiences can’t focus on anything anymore, so we don’t have the ability to shoot deep projects… It’s getting worse,” he said.
Chase also called “The Sopranos” appearance on television “a 25-year-long anomaly” while also being “buried.” He cited his new project about an elite escort as an example: the show’s producers asked for a “simpler” storyline.
