The world’s leading automakers are actively experimenting with autonomous driving technologies. For example, at CES 2024, BMW presented an unusual remote control system – something between fully autonomous and conventional driving – which the company offered to test with hotel employees.
How would it work? An arriving customer parks their car in a lot near the hotel. At the touch of a button in the mobile app, the remote valet is commanded to take control. The car owner can also use the app to ask the valet to “bring the car to the entrance” when leaving.
The remote operator, like a gamer, sits surrounded by monitors that resemble a high-end gaming system, and the remote control is connected to the cameras on the car. The undeniable advantage of this concept is that it is based on already existing technologies. The key is to have a reliable wireless signal.
